An Ontario energy company says it has signed a 20-year agreement to supply wind-generated electricity to the the Ontario Power Authority, one of several projects that are part of the provincial government’s effort to tap more renewable sources of energy.
SkyPower Corp.’s proposed 64.5-megawatt Byran wind project in scenic Prince Edward County, on the north shore of Lake Ontario near Belleville, Ont., is one of six projects that got the nod from the McGuinty government on Friday.
The provincial government says the estimated $1.32 billion in capital costs to build the six projects will be financed privately.
SkyPower, based in Toronto, says its Byran wind farm is expected to cost $160 million and become operational by the end of 2010.
This is promising. Now all we need is some wind and we’re good to go.
